NEWS | Jason Tali announces retirement

Jason Tali has confirmed his intention to retire following the conclusion of the 2025 Betfred Championship season.

The centre has made an incredible contribution to the Dons over a decade of service which has brought more than 160 appearances.

The Papua New Guinea international is second on the club’s all time record try scorer list.

“I’ve had a very long career in the game and this is the right time for me to hang up my boots,” the 38-year-old said. “It’s different than before - now I’m feeling the pain when I get up in the morning so I think my body is telling me it’s the right time.

“I’ll always be grateful for everything the club has done for me over the years, particularly Carl. It wasn’t easy with visas and things for my family when I first came but the club stuck with it.

“It was only supposed to be for one year and then I’d go back home but I ended up staying for ten and building my life here. I’ve gone through residency, got a job and my kids are in school.

“I’ve had other clubs coming in for me over the years but I don’t ever regret sticking with Doncaster. I’ve got some great memories and all of the last ten years have been brilliant.

“We’re working on my testimonial now. There’s a few things left to sort but once we can announce the details, we will.”

Dons chief executive Carl Hall said: “Jason has been incredibly loyal to the club, which is not only very rare these days but unheard of for an overseas player.

“His contribution has been incredible, with the tries he has scored, his incredible commitment and the brilliant leadership he’s shown within the group over the years.

“We are forever indebted to him for the part he played in our return to the Championship.

“He’ll always have a special place in our hearts and be welcomed back to the club whenever he wishes.”

Jason has been asked to lead the Dons out, along with fellow retiree Ben Johnston, for the final game of the season as we host Halifax Panthers at the Eco-Power Stadium this weekend.
